Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our products — from sourcing and ingredients to how to enjoy them at home.

What is Biltong?

Biltong is a traditional air-dried meat snack that originated in Southern Africa. Unlike many modern processed snacks, biltong is made using a simple process: quality cuts of beef are seasoned with salt, vinegar and spices, then slowly air-dried to preserve the meat naturally.

The result is a tender, flavourful, high-protein snack that doesn’t rely on sugar, artificial preservatives, or heavy processing. Because the drying process removes moisture while concentrating the flavour, biltong delivers a rich, satisfying taste and a dense source of protein in every bite. It’s real food, made the old-fashioned way.

Why is Saltbush Biltong better than other beef jerky products?

Saltbush Biltong is made using traditional air-drying methods, preserving the natural flavour and nutritional value of Australian grass-fed beef.

Unlike jerky, which often contains added sugars and preservatives, our biltong is a cleaner, healthier alternative for those seeking a high-protein snack with simple, real ingredients.

Why choose Saltbush Nutrition over other brands?

At Saltbush Nutrition, we focus on the fundamentals: real ingredients, clean nutrition, and exceptional quality. Our biltong is made using 100% Australian grass-fed beef, seasoned simply with salt, vinegar, and spices, then slowly air-dried for flavour and tenderness. We avoid added sugar, preservatives, and unnecessary fillers. The result is a high-protein snack that’s simple, satisfying, and easy to trust.

Where is your beef sourced from?

Our beef is sourced from Australian farms that prioritise animal welfare and sustainable land management. Cattle are raised on open pasture without the use of hormones, antibiotics, or synthetic inputs. Just as nature intended.

How is it packaged and kept fresh?

Each batch is carefully prepared and sealed using vacuum packaging with a nitrogen flush to lock in freshness and protect quality. This process helps preserve flavour, texture, and shelf life naturally — without the need for artificial preservatives.

How should I store my biltong?

Our biltong has a long shelf life when stored in a cool, dry place. For optimal freshness, we recommend refrigerating it after opening. If you’d like to store it for even longer, you can also freeze it safely to preserve its quality.

How long does shipping take?

Standard shipping in Australia typically takes 3-5 business days, depending on your location.

Remote areas may take up to 10 business days.

Orders are dispatched within 1 business day, and you'll receive a tracking link to monitor your order.

Do you ship internationally?

Currently, we ship within the Australia.

If you’re located outside Australia, contact us we may be able to arrange international delivery case-by-case.

Is Biltong vegan?

Unfortunately for vegans, biltong is made from beef… so definitely not. If cows start growing on trees one day, we’ll revisit the question.

That said, if you’re looking for a simple, high-protein snack made from real ingredients and nothing unnecessary, you’re in the right place.
